We’re looking for an enthusiastic Senior Technical Building Consultant - London/Essex

If you love the challenge of working on complex, high risk and high value new build projects and have the knowledge and skills to engage with housing developers and their professional teams, then you could be the perfect fit to join our Technical Operations team as a Senior Technical Building Consultant.

Your day-to-day role

As part of a professional, multi-disciplinary team, you will lead on the technical risk management on a whole range of new build and conversion projects. You will engage, influence and negotiate with developers, builder customers and their design teams at the proposal stage to provide expert knowledge, and professional and technical advice on NHBC Standards, codes and other relevant areas in order to guide them towards compliant solutions that present an acceptable technical risk to NHBC. 

This is a home-based role and you can look forward to real flexibility and an excellent work/life balance. You will often be expected to travel to client sites and, from time to time to our offices, including our head office in Milton Keynes. 

Key elements of the Senior Technical Building Consultant role are to

  • Lead the management of NHBC’s technical and warranty risks
  • Oversee the technical risk management of complex new build and conversion projects
  • Review and check technical submissions from customers to ensure they comply with NHBC standards
  • Project management including managing and co-ordinating the input of other specialists within the TRM project team
  • Engage, influence and negotiate with developers and their design teams
  • Carry out site inspection of building work as part of the technical risk management strategy and provide support to inspectors, surveyors and engineers in the project team.

The qualities and skills we’re looking for

We’re looking for an enthusiastic self-starter who has or is working towards chartered membership of an appropriate professional institution. You will also have an in-depth knowledge and understanding of at least one of the following: structural defects claims, Building Regulations, engineering, NHBC Standards, site inspection, building construction and technology.

You’ll also need:

  • relevant building/construction experience with substantial knowledge of the housing and commercial sectors
  • an understanding of building pathology and why and how buildings fail and result in claims and associated remediation
  • an understanding of environmental issues and relevant standards and legislation
  • excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information
  • a proactive, self-motivated approach with the willingness to develop this exciting new role.

Your salary and benefits

Salary and bonus: Your salary will be in the range of £40,650 to £43,947 per year dependent on experience plus a remote worker allowance, and Regional Uplift of up to £7500.

Our annual bonus scheme rewards our strongest performers with the highest bonuses and, subject to the company’s performance and your own, you could earn up to 6% annual bonus. 

Company car: We’ll provide you with a company car (subject to you doing a minimum of 4,000 business miles a year). We’re bringing on more electric cars to our fleet so you’ll pay less tax and we can continue improving our environmental impact.

Pension: Our pension contributions are generous and, depending on your own level of monthly contributions, we will contribute up to 10.5% of your pensionable salary each year.

Holiday: We offer 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays with the option to purchase an extra week per year.

Private health care: We will pay towards Aviva private medical insurance cover for you and your family worth £395 each year.
