Pride in our Borough: A Borough that works for everyone

Maidstone Borough Council is a progressive and pro-active local authority, located less than an hour from central London, with strong ambitions for the future of Kent’s County Town and its surrounding countryside. This makes us an ideal proposition for Surveyors wishing to apply their previous experience to our town and country environment.

The large, historic County Town offers a unique and diverse context and we’re the first borough in Kent that falls outside the Metropolitan Green Belt, making us an attractive place for investment and future development. We therefore work on a varied canvas - embracing growth whilst maintaining our local heritage and identity.

Following a reorganisation of our busy and high-profile building control team, including significant changes to mobile/agile working, we are now looking to recruit suitably qualified and experienced officers to join our small but successful team of surveyors based in Maidstone Town Centre, the County Town of Kent.

You will be supporting the Building Control Team to operate the service and maintain and enhance our high standards of service delivery and customer care, and to ensure customer requirements and performance targets are met.  In addition, you will also be responsible for the normal building control duties in your own area.

We are looking for a surveyor who is committed to delivering a first class customer orientated service and have the ability to promote our service in a busy competitive market place. With extensive experience in building control and who is looking to develop their management and professional skills and to contribute to the future development of our service.

You will also be required to participate in the on-call Out of Hours Dangerous structures rota for which you will be paid a weekly standby allowance plus overtime for any hours worked.

The successful candidate should be a professional member of RICS, CABE or CIOB and hold a full UK driving licence.

Maidstone Borough Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults and expects all employee and volunteers to share this commitment.

If you feel you meet the requirements of the post and are ready for a new and exciting challenge in a progressive ambitious Local Authority, then we’d like to hear from you.

This is a permanent position working full time 37 hours per week, with the scope for agile/home working under the Council’s new Hybrid working arrangements.

For further information or to discuss this opportunity in more detail, please contact Robert Wiseman – 01622 602150

Working in Maidstone you’ll have the opportunity to develop your skills and experience within an organisation that prides itself on supporting its staff. As part of our succession/career planning, you will be given the time away from work to study and develop your career. In addition to learning & development, we also offer many flexible working opportunities, including flexi time, nine-day fortnight, compressed hours, part-time working and home mobile working

We welcome applications from outside of the region and if the successful candidate is able to relocate, a generous relocation package may be available up to £9,500 for costs incurred due to travelling, disturbance and removals.
