CABE tightens Fellowship assessment to raise standards and recognise industry leaders

CABE has overhauled its Fellowship application process to make its highest membership grade more rigorous, following concerns that previous applications did not consistently demonstrate the level of achievement expected of senior professionals.

The changes place greater emphasis on candidates’ contributions beyond their own careers, including leadership, mentoring, raising professional standards and supporting the wider building engineering sector. Clearer eligibility criteria are also intended to help applicants demonstrate their seniority, experience and impact.

CABE President Paul Grinyer, Membership Director Sharon Spice and Membership and Professional Standards Committee Chair Dan Fordham explain why the changes were needed, how the revised process is improving application quality and why greater rigour is key to maintaining the prestige of Fellowship.

Newly appointed Fellow Charles Lam also shares his experience of preparing an application, including how he evidenced his contributions to sustainability, environmental policy and professional development. He reflects on what achieving Fellowship means for his career and his ongoing commitment to advancing the sector.
