As Tomorrow’s Engineers Week 2025 kicks off across the UK next week, professionals in the building engineering sector are being encouraged to 'Dare to Discover' – to explore new ideas, technologies, and ways of working that will shape the future of sustainable construction and infrastructure.
Now in its 13th year, Tomorrow’s Engineers Week (TEW) celebrates the people and innovations driving the nation’s engineering success. This year’s theme, 'Dare to Discover', is a call to action for both established engineers and the next generation to challenge assumptions and push the boundaries of what’s possible.
For building engineers, that means embracing advances in net zero design, digital twins, smart buildings, and low-carbon materials – as well as rethinking how the built environment can better support communities and the planet.
“Engineering is about curiosity, problem-solving, and discovery,” said Hilary Leevers, Chief Executive of EngineeringUK, which leads the national campaign. “This week is about inspiring people to look at the world differently and realise that engineering has the power to solve some of our biggest challenges – from climate change to housing and infrastructure resilience.”
Across the week, schools, universities, and employers are running events, webinars, and outreach activities to showcase the breadth of engineering careers. Many are highlighting the vital role of building services and structural engineers, whose expertise underpins safe, efficient, and sustainable construction projects across the country.
The campaign also coincides with efforts to improve diversity and inclusion within engineering. According to EngineeringUK’s latest figures, women make up only 15.7% of the UK’s engineering workforce – a figure that industry leaders are determined to change through mentoring, flexible pathways, and visible role models.
To mark Tomorrow’s Engineers Week 2025, which takes place on 10th to 14th November, building engineers are being invited to share their own stories and discoveries throughout the week using #DareToDiscover and #TEWeek25 on social media.
Whether you’re designing energy-efficient buildings, integrating renewable systems, or mentoring the next generation of engineers, Tomorrow’s Engineers Week is a chance to celebrate what makes engineering such a vital, future-focused profession.
