An experienced Quantity Surveyor is required to support the commercial delivery of High Voltage Substation and Battery Energy Storage System projects within DNO, ICP, and EPC frameworks. The role will be based in Watford and will involve managing the full commercial lifecycle of grid connection and energy infrastructure projects across design, build, and energisation phases.
The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of the commercial, contractual, and regulatory requirements associated with UK DNO and ICP environments.
Key ResponsibilitiesCommercial management of HV substation and BESS projects delivered under DNO, ICP, and EPC models
Ownership of project budgets, forecasts, cost value reconciliation (CVR), and reporting
Administration of NEC3 / NEC4 contracts, including Early Warnings and Compensation Events
Commercial interface with DNOs, ICPs, IDNOs, EPC contractors, and supply chain partners
Procurement and management of subcontract packages including civils, electrical, and commissioning
Valuation of works, assessment of variations, and agreement of final accounts
Management of risk, opportunity, and change control throughout the project lifecycle
Support tendering and pricing for new HVSS and BESS opportunities
Ensure commercial compliance with framework agreements and client governance
Close collaboration with project managers, designers, and site teams through to energisation and handover
Proven Quantity Surveying experience within DNO, ICP, or EPC power infrastructure environments
Demonstrable experience delivering HV substations (typically 33kV 400kV)
Experience working on BESS or grid-scale energy storage projects
Strong working knowledge of NEC forms of contract (NEC3/NEC4 essential)
Understanding of DNO standards, adoptable works, and grid connection processes
Experience managing subcontractor commercial performance
Strong financial reporting, forecasting, and commercial governance skills
Excellent stakeholder management and negotiation abilities
Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or similar
RICS or equivalent professional membership (or working towards)
Experience working under DNO frameworks or ICP self-lay delivery models
Knowledge of IDNO adoption and contestable vs non-contestable works
Familiarity with energisation, commissioning, and handover processes
Competitive salary or contract rate depending on experience
