Job Title: Quantity Surveyor (Rail Infrastructure)

Overview

My client is seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor with a strong rail bias to support the commercial delivery of a major rail infrastructure projects based in Hampshire. This is a long-term contract opportunity for a commercially astute professional with proven experience in the rail sector, particularly within Network Rail environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage all commercial aspects of rail infrastructure projects from inception through to final account
  • Prepare, review, and manage cost plans, budgets, and forecasts
  • Administer and manage contracts in line with NEC forms of contract (NEC3/NEC4)
  • Ensure compliance with Network Rail (NR) standards, processes, and commercial requirements
  • Assess, value, and negotiate variations, compensation events, and change control
  • Undertake cost reporting, cash flow forecasting, and financial performance analysis
  • Manage subcontractor procurement, payments, and final accounts
  • Provide commercial support to project delivery teams and stakeholders
  • Identify and manage commercial risks and opportunities
  • Support dispute resolution and claims management where required

Key Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor within the rail infrastructure sector
  • Strong working knowledge of Network Rail (NR) forms of contract and standards
  • Demonstrable experience administering NEC contracts (NEC3/NEC4 essential)
  • Experience managing compensation events and change under NEC frameworks
  • Strong commercial acumen and cost management skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills
  • Proficient in relevant commercial and cost management software

Desirable

  • Previous experience working directly on Network Rail projects
  • Membership or working towards membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., RICS)
  • Experience on major infrastructure or multidisciplinary rail projects
  • Familiarity with rail frameworks and alliance contracting environments
