About the Role:

We are looking for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to start immediately within our Commercial Team based within the gas networks sector. The successful applicant will form part of a close-knit, dynamic team and will support the business in maximising commercial value, reducing risk and delivering key outputs and targets. The Quantity Surveyor role is responsible for a portfolio of projects, providing pre- and post-contract commercial management across the project lifecycle, as outlined in the Key Responsibilities section below.

The Quantity Surveyor role will be full time and will involve a mixture of home and office working as well as site specific working as needed. Any required office working shall be from our offices at Thorpe Park, Leeds.

Projects are delivered predominantly under NEC4 Option A and Option E, with a smaller number delivered under JCT. We are looking for someone who is proactive in contract administration, commercially astute, and able to present commercial challenge using facts and data. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are also important to us.

Key Duties:

  • Cost estimation of projects.
  • Preparation of internal commercial reporting and other reports which may be required.
  • Challenge & manage cost control and provide cost mitigation measures where appropriate.
  • Management of projects in accordance with internal budgets following the processes for increasing sanction where required.
  • Undertake contract administration, including change management and maintain associated registers.
  • Negotiate and agree change events, extension of time claims and final accounts within required timescales.
  • Measurement of quantities and pricing of work as required.
  • Identifying commercial risks, opportunities, value engineering and change.
  • Ensure appropriate contractor relationship is initiated and maintained.
  • Assessment of applications for payment in accordance with the contract and preparation of payment certificates.
  • Draft complex contract arrangements and appropriate terms of engagement.
  • Undertaking monthly accruals and forecasting for the business.
  • Compliance with gas sector governance, policies and procedures

About You:

  • Experience within the Gas industry is required
  • Degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying (or equivalent) and/or demonstrable experience delivering pre- and post-contract commercial management on construction or utilities projects.
  • Work well with others, build strong relationships within the Commercial Team and develop effective partnerships across the wider business.
  • Demonstrable experience using contract terms and cost data to identify risk/opportunity and make clear commercial recommendations.
  • Able to communicate commercial positions clearly in writing and in meetings, including challenging stakeholders and contractors professionally.
  • Proven ability to negotiate change, payment and final account positions to timely agreement and in line with contract entitlements.
  • Excellent organisation and record-keeping skills.
  • Computer literate with strong skills in Microsoft Office Applications (Word/Excel/Outlook/PowerPoint)
  • Good communication skills including the ability to negotiate and communicate clearly with others.
  • Full UK driving licence
