Kerry County Council is the Authority responsible for Local Government in County Kerry. The Council headquarters are located at Áras an Chontae, Rathass, Tralee County Kerry and there are five Municipal Districts [Municipal District of Tralee, Municipal District of Killarney, Municipal District of Listowel, Municipal District of Kenmare and Municipal District of Castleisland-Corca Dhuibhne]. Kerry County Council has 33 elected members and approximately 1500 staff.

County Kerry has a population of approximately 155,000 people in an area covering 4,700 square kilometres and 3 peninsulas. Kerry County Council is responsible for the delivery of the full range of local government services in the county. Kerry County Council seeks to enhance the county’s attraction as a place in which to invest, work, and live, and takes the lead role in shaping the strategic vision of the county. It provides a diverse, multi-layered and evolving range of services to both citizens and visitors to County Kerry across a large geographic area, which includes the provision of housing, planning, development, environmental, roads and traffic, leisure and community services. It also has an enhanced role in leading out economic and community development in the County. The Council works in partnership with other state, public and private bodies in the delivery of critical infrastructure and shared services. It also operates the Local Government Operational Procurement Centre which is a national shared service with responsibility for managing, developing, and promoting procurement best practice under the Local Government sector led categories of Plant Hire and Minor Building Works & Civils contracts.

An opportunity now exists in Kerry County Council for the position of Senior Executive Engineer.

Job Summary/Description:

The Senior Executive Engineer will be required to lead a team or teams and to provide 

technical and managerial support across all local authority service areas and to liaise with external agencies and support the democratic process. They will be required to report to their appropriate line manager, assist the management team as may be required and deal with the elected Councillors in respect of their role including attendance at the relevant Council meetings as required. They may also be required to deputise for the Business Unit Head.

 

The Senior Executive Engineer will be responsible for the efficient management of staff and the work programme of the directorates/department and function to which they are assigned.

 

Managers at this level work within defined parameters relevant to the position, in accordance with the Local Authority’s vision and objectives and the role is interchangeable across directorates. The Senior Executive Engineer will be required to work closely with the Management Team and elected Councillors to deliver the full range of services and implement policy decisions.

Recognising Local Government as the main vehicle of governance and public service, the role will involve contributing to economic, social and community development, delivering efficient and good value services, and representing citizens and local communities effectively and accountably.
