Senior Quantity Surveyor

A growing Special Projects Division is looking to strengthen its commercial team with a high-calibre Senior Quantity Surveyor based out of Durham. This is an excellent opportunity to join a financially secure business delivering complex projects in live and challenging environments.

This opportunity sits within a well-established UK construction group with a turnover in excess of 1bn, delivering projects across sectors including commercial, industrial, education, healthcare, and public sector frameworks.

The role is part of a dedicated Special Projects Division focused on fast-paced, technically complex schemes typically ranging from 10m to 30m. Projects are a mix of new build and high-quality fit-out/refurbishment, often within live or operational environments.

The division operates with a lean, agile structure, offering greater autonomy, faster decision-making, and closer collaboration between commercial and operational teams-while still benefiting from the financial strength, systems, and reputation of a major contractor.

With a strong pipeline of secured work across distribution, defence, and education sectors, the business continues to invest in its people as it grows.

You will take a lead commercial role on projects typically ranging from 10m - 30m, across:

• Distribution and logistics centres
• MOD projects
• Education schemes

Projects are delivered as a mix of new build and fit-out/refurbishment.

• Lead the commercial management of projects from pre-construction through to final account
• Manage subcontract procurement, negotiation, and package control
• Produce cost reports, CVRs, and forecasts
• Identify and manage commercial risks and opportunities
• Work closely with project and site teams to drive performance
• Build strong relationships with clients, consultants, and supply chain
• Support and mentor junior commercial staff where required

• Proven experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor or an experienced Project QS ready to step up
• Background within a main contractor environment
• Experience delivering projects valued at 10m+
• Exposure to sectors such as industrial, defence, or education is advantageous
• Strong commercial awareness and ability to manage projects independently
• Confident communicator with strong negotiation skills

• 75,000 - 80,000 basic salary
