Interim Building Surveyor, Housing Association London, £350 - 400 p/day PAYE/Umbrella, 6-month contract

Are you an experienced Building Surveyor passionate about improving the quality, safety, and sustainability of residential homes? We're looking for a proactive professional to join our team and support the delivery of high-quality planned and reactive works across a diverse housing portfolio.

As a Building Surveyor, you'll play a key role in ensuring customers can live safely and independently in well-maintained homes. You'll work closely with internal teams, external contractors, and local authorities to deliver exceptional property services across a range of residential - and some commercial - properties.
You'll be responsible for conducting detailed surveys, writing technical reports, managing works programmes, and ensuring projects are completed to high standards, on time and within budget.

Your new role

  • Build strong working relationships with contractors and support the resolution of operational issues.
  • Manage programmes of planned and reactive works, ensuring quality delivery and adherence to budget.
  • Conduct full building surveys, prepare technical reports, and provide cost analysis and recommendations.
  • Project manage complex works and disrepair cases, working collaboratively with legal and operational teams.
  • Oversee responsive repairs and contribute to the improvement of long-term maintenance planning.
  • Carry out post-inspections to ensure contractor work meets required standards.
  • Support the voids process and monitor contractor performance.
  • Investigate customer service complaints and propose improvements.
  • Assess damage following serious incidents (e.g., floods, fires) and manage resulting works.
  • Provide technical advice and assessments on major repairs, cyclical maintenance, FRA, EPCs, and other contracted works.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory health and safety requirements, including CDM.
  • Offer guidance and support to colleagues to enhance service delivery.

What you'll need to succeed

Essential:
  • Experience in contract administration, including use of JCT / NEC contract documents.
  • Strong technical reporting skills.
  • Experience in project management or delivering programmes of work.
  • Excellent IT skills (Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel).
  • Relevant surveying qualifications or equivalent experience.
Desirable:
  • Degree in Building Surveying or related discipline.
  • Membership of RICS or CIOB.
  • DEA or FRA assessor training.
  • Full UK driving licence.
