Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Structural Engineer to provide interim support to a growing workload within their London Civils & Structures team. This is a long-term contract opportunity with the potential to operate outside IR35, subject to assessment.

This role offers the chance to step into a live, multidisciplinary project environment and make an immediate impact. You will take ownership of structural design packages, working closely with internal teams and stakeholders to deliver high-quality, practical engineering solutions in line with programme, cost, and safety requirements.

The Role

Reporting to an Associate or Principal Engineer, you will lead small to medium civil and structural design packages, or play a key role within larger, complex schemes. While this position does not include direct line management, you will provide technical guidance and support to colleagues across project teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver structural design packages to agreed programme and quality standards
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support efficient project delivery
  • Apply current civil and structural design codes and best practice
  • Undertake self-checks and contribute to technical reviews to ensure accuracy and quality
  • Fulfil Senior Engineer responsibilities under CDM and health & safety regulations
  • Identify and escalate risks relating to programme, cost, or technical delivery
  • Support programme planning and provide regular progress updates
  • Promote a strong culture of safety, quality, innovation, and sustainability

You will be aligned to one sector at a time, based on your experience and project requirements.

Projects will be matched to your background. For example:

  • Experience in steelwork or refurbishment may suit aviation schemes
  • Foundation design experience may align with power or heavy infrastructure projects
Requirements

Qualifications & Eligibility

  • Ideally Chartered (CEng MICE or CEng MIStructE), though not essential
  • Valid CSCS card
  • Eligible for BPSS clearance (SC desirable)
  • Right to work in the UK

Technical Experience

  • Strong, up-to-date knowledge of structural design standards and codes
  • Proven experience delivering infrastructure and/or building design, including:
    • Building structures
    • Foundation design
    • Earthworks and site investigations
    • Roads and bridges
    • Services coordination
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary design teams
  • Understanding of technical assurance and quality processes
