The Opportunity
We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Senior Structural Engineer to join our Consulting Bridges team. We are building a Bridges team in Cardiff and welcome applications from the South West regions.
The role
Our Senior Structural Engineers play an important part within the Highways and Designated Funds Design team and alongside our client, National Highways. You will lead a variety of highway structure schemes and mentor junior designers. The work spans from feasibility and optioneering through to design and construction on the South West Scheme Delivery Framework for National Highways, with opportunities across the UK.
Current / ongoing project highlights include:
- £1.2bn management of over 5,000 structures, including Severn, Avonmouth and Prince of Wales crossings.
- Severn Suspension Bridge - Main Cable Augmentation Feasibility Study ( £500M ).
- Severn Suspension Bridge - Main Cable Assessment, Management and Mitigation.
- Severn Suspension Bridge - Hanger Replacement Study.
- Avonmouth Bridge - 174m main span box girder bridge - assessment and investigation.
- Prince of Wales Bridge - Gantry Assessment.
- Other works with Local Authorities across the UK.
Requirements / Experience
- Developed experience within the Structures field, probably gained in an Engineer role or equivalent.
- Comprehensive knowledge of structural design processes and procedures.
- Ability to produce or oversee technically sound engineering solutions, complying with relevant technical standards and client requirements.
- Ownership of preparation and checking of deliverables, ensuring they meet a reasonable standard.
- Strong working knowledge of relevant software and analytical tools (e.g., LUSAS, Autodesk Structural Bridge Design).
- Good commercial awareness.
- Understanding of Safety, Health & Welfare and risk assessment.
- Experience managing and communicating hazards and risks, ensuring appropriate risk mitigation.
- Understanding of interface management, ensuring deliverables align with other disciplines.
- Incorporated or Chartered status with Engineers Ireland, ICE, IStructE or equivalent professional licence desirable and may be essential for particular contracts.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in an appropriate subject, or demonstrable equivalent learning.
