Quantity Surveyor - Construction - Milton Keynes
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced and commercially astute Quantity Surveyor to join a growing commercial team. This is a key role responsible for managing the financial and commercial performance of projects, ensuring profitability, accurate reporting, and effective risk management throughout the project lifecycle.
You will play a central role in delivering projects successfully, working closely with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams to ensure works are delivered on time and in line with financial targets.
Key Responsibilities
Commercial & Financial Management
- Manage project budgets, forecasts, and cost-to-complete reporting
- Produce monthly CVRs, variance analysis, and cashflow forecasts
- Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting across all projects
Procurement & Supply Chain
- Lead subcontractor procurement and manage tender processes
- Negotiate competitive rates and ensure robust contract coverage
- Monitor plant and equipment costs to maximise efficiency Quantity
Contract Management
- Ensure compliance with contract terms and internal procedures
- Support tender sign-off processes and provide feedback on project performance
- Maintain strong documentation and audit trails
Subcontractor & Site Management
- Value subcontractor works and manage payment processes
- Issue payment and pay-less notices in line with contractual timescales
- Build strong working relationships to minimise disputes
Valuations & Client Liaison
- Prepare and agree monthly external valuations with clients
- Manage variation submissions and ensure full cost recovery
- Monitor aged debt and support timely invoicing and payments
Risk & Performance Management
- Identify commercial risks and opportunities across projects
- Maintain risk registers and implement mitigation strategies
- Ensure deadlines for valuations, reporting, and procurement are consistently met
About You
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree, HND or HNC in Quantity Surveying
- Proven experience in a Quantity Surveying role
- Strong knowledge of JCT contracts (essential) and other standard forms
- Experience within social housing, cladding remediation, retrofit or planned works desirable
