Job Overview
A growing specialist contractor is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Quantity Surveyor to manage the commercial and estimating functions across multiple projects. The role involves working closely with sales, project management, and site teams to ensure accurate pricing, effective cost control, contractual compliance, and commercial reporting throughout the project lifecycle.
Key ResponsibilitiesEstimating & Pre-Construction
Support the preparation of operational pricing and tender submissions
Prepare, review, and maintain estimating cost spreadsheets
Price framework packages in line with client requirements
Review scopes of work and activity schedules to ensure alignment with estimates and project requirements
Obtain, assess, and negotiate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors
Review technical drawings, specifications, and contract documentation
Identify commercial risks and opportunities during tender and pre-construction stages
Commercial & Project Support
Manage and track Compensation Events and Early Warning Notices
Review site records, diaries, and timesheets to support commercial assessments
Monitor and report site issues, delays, and risks in conjunction with Project Managers
Assess programme impacts and support the valuation of delays and associated costs
Prepare and submit applications for payment
Price and negotiate variations and Compensation Events
Assess subcontractor applications and prepare payment certificates
Produce monthly Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs) and commercial reports
Monitor project costs, forecasts, and profitability throughout the project lifecycle
Support final account preparation and agreement with clients and subcontractors
Necessary Skills & Requirements
Previous experience in a Quantity Surveying role within the construction or civil engineering sector
Strong commercial awareness and cost management skills
Excellent numerical and analytical ability
Proficient in Microsoft Excel and general IT systems
Good understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and contractual documentation
High attention to detail and strong organisational skills
Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
Desirable Skills & Requirements
Knowledge of civil engineering or environmental projects
Familiarity with NEC contracts, particularly Compensation Events and Early Warning Notice processes
Experience preparing CVRs and managing project financial reporting
