Clerk of Works - Landscape
We are currently seeking an experienced Clerk of Works (Landscape) to support the delivery of landscape works on a major highways project in Gloucester.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong highways, civils, or infrastructure landscape experience who can step in quickly and take ownership of quality assurance, compliance, and site coordination.
Location & Working Pattern
Location: Gloucester (site-based role)
Working pattern: 5 days per week
Approximately 3 days per week on site, with the remainder supporting coordination and reporting
Start date: ASAP
Duration: Initial 3 months (with potential to extend)
Key Responsibilities
The role will focus on landscape quality assurance, environmental compliance, and site coordination, acting as a key link between the contractor, engineering team, and specialist consultants.
Responsibilities include:
Ensuring full compliance with the Landscape and Ecological Management Plan (LEMP)
Monitoring works against Series 3000 specifications and approved grassland method statements
Carrying out site inspections, quality checks, and assurance reporting
Supporting the engineering team with technical queries, issue resolution, and site coordination
Reviewing and managing permits, approvals, and compliance documentation
Raising early warnings where risks, defects, or non-compliance issues arise
Attending and contributing to technical meetings with contractors and specialists
Liaising with soil scientists and landscape specialists to ensure material suitability and provenance
Supporting the preparation of as-built drawings and completion records
Assisting with commercial awareness of landscape works, including identifying issues impacting cost or programme
Supporting preparation for the upcoming planting season
Undertaking risk reviews across landscape and environmental elements of the project
Addressing and escalating issues where design changes impact delivery on site
Candidate Requirements
We are looking for someone with:
Proven experience as a Clerk of Works, Landscape Inspector, Site Supervisor, or Site Engineer
Strong background in highways or major infrastructure projects (Tier 1 contractor environment preferred)
Solid understanding of landscape compliance, environmental requirements, and site QA processes
Knowledge of LEMP, Series 3000 specifications, and method statements
Experience working with contractors, engineers, and environmental/soil specialists
Strong ability to identify issues early and drive resolution on site
Confident communicator, comfortable in meetings and stakeholder discussions
Ability to work independently within a fast-paced live project environment
About the Role
This is a hands-on, site-focused role requiring someone who can take ownership of landscape assurance on a major National Highways scheme. You will play a key part in ensuring environmental and quality standards are maintained throughout the delivery of this complex infrastructure project.
