The Opportunity
An established UK infrastructure and highways business is looking to appoint an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to support a major long-term highways asset maintenance contract across Cheshire West and Chester.
This is a key commercial position offering responsibility for a varied portfolio of highways maintenance and improvement schemes. You ll work closely with the operational and commercial teams, taking ownership of cost management, change control, claims and final accounts throughout the contract lifecycle.
The position would suit a commercially confident Senior Quantity Surveyor with NEC contract experience and a background in highways, civil engineering or infrastructure maintenance. Experience of resolving historic claims and bringing accounts to an efficient commercial close would be particularly valuable.
The role offers hybrid working, typically involving approximately three days per week from the Chester office or across the contract, with flexibility for home working during the remainder of the week.

Salary up to £70,000, depending on experience

The Role
As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you ll provide commercial leadership across the contract from pre-construction and procurement through to delivery and final account.
Your responsibilities will include:
Managing budgets, forecasts, cash flow and commercial reporting
Identifying and controlling commercial risks and opportunities
Managing change, compensation events and contractual notices
Preparing, negotiating and closing claims and final accounts
Supporting procurement and the commercial management of subcontractors
Ensuring accurate cost capture and robust financial controls
Providing commercial advice to operational and senior management teams
Supporting and mentoring junior members of the commercial team
About You
You ll ideally have:
Proven experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor or experienced Quantity Surveyor
A background in highways maintenance, highways construction, civil engineering or infrastructure
Good working knowledge of NEC contracts
Experience managing claims, compensation events and final accounts
Strong commercial reporting, forecasting and cost-management skills
A degree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline
The ability to work collaboratively with operational teams, clients and supply-chain partners
Professional membership of RICS, CIOB or ICES would be beneficial but isn t essential.
You ll need to live within a reasonable commuting distance of Chester and be comfortable attending the office or contract locations approximately three days per week. Candidates available at short notice are particularly encouraged to apply.
