Senior Structural Engineer

We are currently recruiting for a Senior Structural Engineer to join an established and highly regarded independent Civil & Structural Engineering consultancy in central Cardiff. The business has a healthy pipeline of work and is looking for an experienced contractor to provide immediate support to the existing structural engineering team. This is a contract opportunity, with the potential to develop into a long-term engagement for the right individual. The role is available at around £45-£50 per hour, outside IR35.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a busy and technically capable engineering team working on a genuinely varied portfolio of projects across South Wales and beyond. The consultancy has a strong track record across the public and private sectors, with experience spanning commercial, residential, education, heritage, transport and regeneration projects.

The successful candidate will be joining a collaborative team at a point where additional resource is genuinely required, meaning you should be able to make an immediate impact rather than simply filling a short-term gap. You will have the opportunity to contribute to a varied workload, take ownership of structural design packages and work alongside other disciplines, with the potential for the contract to continue as the project pipeline develops.

We are looking for an experienced Senior Structural Engineer who can hit the ground running and operate with a good degree of autonomy. You should have strong structural design experience, be comfortable taking responsibility for projects and be capable of working effectively with clients, architects, contractors and other members of the design team. This would suit someone who enjoys technically varied work and is looking for a contract role that could offer genuine longevity.

What You Need To Succeed

• Strong experience in the design and analysis of building structures.
• Ability to take ownership of structural design packages from concept through to detailed design.
• Experience working across a range of materials, ideally including steel, reinforced concrete, masonry and timber.
• Confident using relevant structural design and analysis software.
• Good understanding of current British Standards/Eurocodes and structural engineering principles.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with clients, architects, contractors and other consultants.
• Able to work independently, manage competing priorities and hit the ground running in a busy consultancy environment.
• Chartered Engineer status with the IStructE/ICE, or close to achieving it.
• A strong academic background with a BEng or MEng in Civil or Structural Engineering.
