Home Based East of England 40,000 - 46,000 + 5,500 Car Allowance

Recruit 4 Construction are recruiting for an experienced and proactive Building Surveyor to take ownership of a varied regional housing portfolio across the East of England.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys being out on site, solving problems, managing contractors and seeing works through properly from inspection to completion. The role will suit a Building Surveyor who wants more autonomy, more variety and the chance to play a key part in the delivery of planned works, void works, major repairs and compliance-led property improvements.

You will be home based, with regular travel across the region expected around three days per week. The portfolio includes properties across areas such as London, Peterborough, Nottingham, Sheffield, Leeds, North Yorkshire, Lincoln and Grimsby.

This is not a role where you will be stuck behind a desk. You will be inspecting properties, assessing works, reviewing standards, monitoring contractor performance, supporting investment programmes and making sure works are delivered safely, efficiently and to the right quality.

The Role

As Building Surveyor, you will be responsible for supporting the effective delivery of planned maintenance, void works and major repairs across the region.

You will use your technical knowledge to assess property condition, identify required works, specify solutions and oversee delivery through external contractors. You will also support compliance activity including fire risk actions, asbestos re-inspections, stock condition surveys and technical inspections linked to major or complex repairs.

You will work closely with internal teams and external contractors to make sure works are completed on time, within budget and to a high standard, while keeping customer service and resident experience at the centre of delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carrying out property inspections, planned works surveys and technical assessments
  • Overseeing planned investment works, void works and major repairs
  • Assessing and specifying works for major and complex repairs
  • Supporting Fire Risk Assessment actions and asbestos re-inspections
  • Monitoring contractor performance, quality, timescales and value for money
  • Managing and tracking budgets linked to planned works and repairs
  • Ensuring works are delivered safely, compliantly and to the required standard
  • Supporting procurement and tendering activity where required
  • Updating property systems and maintaining accurate records
  • Working closely with regional teams, compliance teams and senior management
  • Helping to improve service delivery, contractor standards and customer satisfaction

What We Are Looking For

We are looking for someone with a strong background in housing, property maintenance, building surveying, planned works or construction.

You will need to be confident carrying out inspections, identifying defects, dealing with contractors and managing a varied workload across multiple sites. Strong communication skills are essential, as you will be dealing with internal teams, external partners, contractors and residents.

The successful candidate will be organised, commercially aware and confident making evidence-based decisions. You will understand the importance of quality, compliance, health and safety, cost control and customer care.

Ideal Experience

  • Experience working as a Building Surveyor, Property Surveyor, Maintenance Surveyor or similar
  • Background in housing, property maintenance, planned works or construction
  • Knowledge of planned investment works, voids, major repairs and compliance
  • Experience monitoring contractors and checking quality of works
  • Understanding of health and safety requirements within residential properties
