Technical Manager (Audit & Standards)

£40,000 - £50,000 yearly

Job Description

We are looking for a proactive, well organised Technical Manager to join our small, friendly team. You will be primarily responsible for supporting the technical team to ensure design and construction techniques along with best practice guidance are maintained across the association. This includes undertaking audits of contracting and independent surveyor members, as well as carrying out audits of other specialist contractors and their work as required.

Other duties will include the risk management of below ground structures to relevant and current standards for the provision of latent defects insurance. This is an exciting role for someone who has good attention to detail, is people focused and able to work in a changing and fast-paced environment.

About the Property Care Association

The Property Care Association (PCA) is the leading representative organisation for the UK’s building protection industry. Our skilled and audited membership operate across domestic, commercial and civil sectors in the structural repair, structural waterproofing, wood preservation, damp protection, flood remediation and invasive weed control industries. 

Focused on the complete building envelope, our members’ expertise protects the integrity and comfort of domestic buildings in both new build and refurbishment projects, guarding against moisture damage, damp, mould and decay. Members also deliver cutting edge techniques to protect commercial and civil structures against water penetration and ground gases, as well using the latest scientific methods to tackle invasive weeds, including Japanese knotweed, across all urban, rural and watercourse environments.

Key Deliverables

You will be responsible for ensuring members comply with relevant standards including British standards and PCA codes of practice.

You will be able to forward plan; being proactive whilst able to respond to reactive issues. You will be an excellent communicator, managing and influencing staff, stakeholders and speakers to ensure we are the leading authority in this matter and all projects are delivered to a high standard. 

There will be a requirement to plan and organise individual and team activity and to manage, integrate and coordinate work on behalf of the association. There will be a requirement for regular UK travel to undertake audits and support the association’s regional events and conference.

Description of Deliverables

1.Audits

  • Undertake member technical audits including reviewing pre-audit documentation, attending site visits and completing follow up actions
  • Undertake Basement Insurance Guarantee (BIG) and Structural Waterproof Insurance Guarantee (SWIG) audits including reviewing pre-audit documentation, attending site visits and completing follow up actions
  • Report and recommend any actions required post-audit, liaising with the member and membership team, ensuring actions are completed
  • Undertake inspections of existing buildings and site visits before and during construction to confirm design compliance
  • Review and update from time to time, audit template paperwork to ensure it continues to meet the needs of the PCA.

2. Training

  • With support from the training team and members, develop and update our training and certification offering.

3. Other

  • Support the development and launch of other projects and activities
  • Autonomous responsibility and direct influence over stakeholders and staff to drive change and improve performance
  • Attending and contributing to relevant sector meetings
  • Keep own skills up to date
  • Attend meetings as requested by the Senior Management Team
  • Contribute to other activities as requested by the Senior Management Team.

Criteria Essential Desirable
Education and Qualifications
  • Must have a recognised Engineering qualification in Civil or Structural Engineering
CSSW qualification, or equivalent 
experience.
Membership of a 
relevant professional 
body. (i.e. CABE)
Experience
  • Technical background serving specialist activities in the built environment 
  • Delivering projects from conception to completion
  • Managing competing priorities.
Working within a not-for-profit
organisation.
Knowledge

  • Understanding of insurance risk.
Working within an
